FAA nixes cell phones in flight

Hooray! The FAA came out with a ruling this week nixing the idea of passengers being able to use their cell phones on board during flights. Three cheers for a great decision. Regardless of the emissions issues or the interference-with-in-flight-equipment issues, the very real issue of interference with other passengers’ tranquility was the big factor here as far as I’m concerned. It’s so nice to know that we won’t be inundated with cell phone calls while we’re enroute across the country. No chattering seatmates. No loud talkers behind you. No insidious ringing of phones throughout the cabin. The passengers have actually won here!
